Literature homework due March 3rd

Homework for this week:

  • Continue reading and annotating Act2 scene 2  in Hamlet

We will be going over annotations this week in class.

  • Rewrite your intro to include all that we discussed in class on Thursday.  Start with an attention grabber that relates specifically to your essay. Come up with a good thesis sentence and place it at the end of your paragraph. Their should be at least 3-4 sentences between your attention grabber and thesis statement that give us the following information:
  1.   Must provide reasonable context to your argument. (Be persuasive)
  2. Must give title of book and Authors name
  3. Present and original well thought out idea or analysis
  4. Paragraph leads into or transitions to the thesis statement with fluidity.
Before turning in your intro
Proof read it for grammatical and punctuation error 2x
Read the paragraph and re read it 5x to make sure that sentence structure and flow of the paragraph is correct.
Read your paragraph out loud 2x ( sometimes hearing it calls attention to errors or awkward statements.
Read your paragraph backward from thesis to intro.
Is the meaning of each sentence clear? (One way to answer this question is to read your paper one sentence at a time, starting at the end and working backwards so that you will not unconsciously fill in content from previous sentences.) Is it clear what each pronoun (he, she, it, they, which, who, this, etc.) refers to? Have you chosen the proper words to express your ideas? Avoid using words you find in the thesaurus that aren’t part of your normal vocabulary; you may misuse them.

Homework 2/17

HT Lit Class Homework 2/11-2/17

1. Complete reading Chapter 4 & 5 in Windows To the World.  We discussed some in class, but review and complete all sections.  Please highlight important info and annotate; Pages 37-63. This is important to do before you rewrite your essay!!! Some of you need to use the paragraph organizer I handed out in class(alao in your workbk).  Copy 3x and do for the body paragraphs.  This will make it much easier to write your paper.

2.  Send all "Once and Future King" thesis statements to Mrs. O'Brien by noon on 2/16 to 281-787-0216.

3. Hamlet read ALL of Act 1 and annotate. Most of you have already done this.
You need to start a profile of Hamlet's character.  Identify lines about him--either his own words or other characters' descriptions of him.  Then develop a list of characteristics that describe him.  If Hamlet was your friend today, what advice would you give him regarding his feelings about his father, mothers, and uncle? Please answer this question in one paragraph.

4.Make adjustments and corrections to your literary analysis essay on "Once and Future King". Turn in Thursday morning on the kitchen counter as well as your #3 notes and paragraph.
