Homework April 14th

This weeks homework will include readings in you text book and Hamlet. You will also be turning in you Character analysis essay for a final grade. Please see the list below for details:

• Read the last Act of Hamlet. It is important to finish the book so you can spend the next couple of weeks reflecting on your upcoming essay. Try to annotate at least 1/2 way through the final act. If you can finish all annotations you will receive  5 bonus points which will be added to your essay grade. It may be helpful to annotate your book with your final Essay in mind.

• you will be asked to base your final essay in one of three questions. You will find the questions below. Please start thinking about, and outlining your essay points now. You should slso start gathering quotes and evidence to support your points. 

1. Throughout the play, Hamlet claims to be feigning madness, but his portrayal of a madman is so intense and so convincing that many readers believe that Hamlet actually slips into insanity at certain moments in the play. Do you think this is true, or is Hamlet merely play-acting insanity? What evidence can you site for your opinion?
2. Think about Hamlet’s relationship with Ophelia. Does he love her? Does he stop loving her? Did he ever love her? What evidence can you find in the play to support your opinion?
3. Analyze the use of descriptions and images in Hamlet.How does Shakespeare use descriptive language to enhance the visual possibilities of a stage production? How does he use imagery to create a mood of tension, suspense, fear, and despair?

• Please read chapter 9 on theme and worldview in your text
• The final draft of your Essay is due this week. Please turn in your essay at the beginning of the day. It should be properly formatted and put in a page protector.  Please make all necessary corrections to your body paragraph. Please work to make sure that your conclusion follows the following rules:

•  Conclusions wrap up what you have been discussing in your paper. After moving from general to specific information in the introduction and body paragraphs, your conclusion should begin pulling back into more general information that restates the main points of your argument. Conclusions may also call for action or overview future possible research. The following outline may help you conclude your paper:
  In a general way,
  • Restate your topic and why it is important,
  • Restate your thesis/claim,
  • explain why readers should align with your position,
  • End with a hook , short anecdote, quote, or surprising fact.

Homework due April 7th

Homework for this week is as follows:

• Read through Act 4 of Hamlet

You should Annotate at least 1/2 of the act this week.

• Explain the meaning of verse 93 of act 3 scene 2 (chameleons dish) (turn in before class)
• Find proof in Act 3 that Hamlet is actually on the verge of madness and is not only pretending. (Turn it in before class) 

Be thinking about the concluding paragraph of your Essay. 

The final draft will be due in 2 weeks
