Homework due December 10th

Homework due Dec 10th

For this week, you have been assigned a project/presentation that utilizes all of the skills that you have learned thus far.

In class on Thursday, you each selected a children's picture book to Analyze.
It is very important that you stick with your chosen book.
If you missed class on Thursday, please contact us ASAP to get approval on your children's book.

These are the requirements for this project:

  1. You must be prepared to read your book selection aloud to the class.
  2. Your project must be done on a poster board
  3. You will fulfill all of the story chart requirements including conflict, setting, character, theme etc.... BUT this must be done in a creative and visually impactful way. You may not use the standard pyramid. Think about the sample exercise we did in class on Thursday. Your interpretations of Madeline were brilliant! I loved the Eiffel Tower and the dorm room story chart!!
  4. Make sure that your poster reflect mood and tone of the piece
  5. You must find at least 5 literary devices.  Dig deep on this one. Some of the most common devices used in children's books have to do with language...  You should have no trouble finding rhymes, assonance, alliteration,  onomatopoeias, personification. But please keep your eyes open for instances of allusions, symbolism, irony, allegory, etc.
  6. A bonus will be given if you find a device used within the illustrations of the text!!
  7. Have fun with this project!

Please be sure to bring your textbook copy of widows to the world  for the next class. We will give a brief instruction on annotation

You must complete The once and future king (TOAFK) ASAP.  If you have not done so, you are behind. You will have a reading assignment over Christmas break. The last thing you will want to do is juggle 2 books at once!!!  Our discussion on this book will  start on our first day after break.

Since it has taken longer than expected to complete  TOAFK. We have had to make some adjustments to our reading assignments. It has become necessary for both classes to read the same piece of literature. We have had to take reading level and ability into account. We also needed to make sure that it was a piece that was new to everyone in both classes.
We have, therefore, decided to use Shakespeare's Hamlet
This play is readily available online.
But we would like for everyone to purchase a copy to write in.
In order to save some time, we would like for you to purchase a  "parallel text" edition.
This means that the book will include both the original and modern English script.
The English text will  only be used for reference. Original text must be read in order to fully appreciate and familiarize yourself with the language

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. O'Brien or myself.
