Homework Assignment - Due October 8th

Great discussion today as we broke open and explored our summer novel The Silver Chalice!
If you missed out on class today we went over the remaining literary terms from Pages 10-11. We discussed the 5 different conflicts and picked a couple different ones for The Silver Chalice and made a story chart of each.  Again loved the class participation and input!  Remember class participation is a big part of your grade so be sure you are getting involved in the discussion! Literary interpretation occurs when different opinions arise. Continue making informed decisions and have the reasons/support to back up your decision.  This is CRITICAL THINKING!!!

Homework

1.  Research the author, Thomas B. Costain of The Silver Chalice. Look at Appendix A pages 74-75 (#18-21) and answer the questions:  WHO is the author?,  WHERE did the author live?, WHEN did the author live? and WHAT did the author believe?.

2.  Read Lesson 3 on Setting.  Be sure to read Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.  Pick a conflict for the story and complete the Story Chart on Page 30 in your workbook.  Make a prediction about the theme.  Write a Plot Summary that includes all 5 elements of Plot.  Please do this is NO MORE than 3 sentences. EXTRA CREDIT:  Find three literary devices within Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.

3.  Review for QUIZ. Be sure to review Lessons 1-3, all literary devices, all terms/vocabulary, and know all the parts of the story chart.

4.  Continue reading our next novel The Once and Future King by T.H.White.  This novel must be completed by October 22nd.  If you do not have the book yet, you can read it online:

** All students must bring their workbooks  Teaching the Classics to class on Oct. 8. Anyone without their workbook will need to stay with their parent in study hall for 4th period.
